Nokia 5800 v iPhone

Here comes the comparison between the 2 touch device from Nokia and Apple.

    • smashpop

      @encik ryunosuke, ahaha thats very true 😀

  • i like the touch heptic on 5800. =)

    • smashpop

      @Nicholas, haha havent even try it wor u

      • @smashpop, at least iPhone doesn’t have it. Touch heptic is cool, so doesn’t feel like touching nothing.

        • smashpop

          @Nicholas, thats very true

  • Seaedge

    and loudspeaker wise, iphone is not ok at all (for me).. tak dengar langsung coz of puny speakers…

    • smashpop

      @Seaedge, oh yes. the 5800 is SUPER LOUD

      • ArunKarthik

        @smashpop, how loud is it compared to the n73?

        • smashpop

          @ArunKarthik, probably 10% more

          • ArunKarthik

            @smashpop, wow! and to look at them, they look so tiny! lol! this phone keeps surprising me and making me want it more everyday!!!!! 😀

          • smashpop

            @ArunKarthik, ahahah no you cannot sound more excited than me! I am the most excited one! LOLOLOL kidding… lets go buy together when it launches 😀

  • endlessz

    ahh this is what i’d like to see..
    so far i don’t know if the touch screen on 5800 is sensitive enough like the ones found on the iphone..

    if it’s not as sensitive just like the touch diamond, then it’s pointless to have all those nice features..i’d stick to iphone anytime =)

    • smashpop

      @endlessz, its very sensitive

  • ArunKarthik

    apparently mobile-review did an extensive page on 5800 and they found it to be responsive to even slight touches.

    and Jason, BEST POST EVERRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😛 awesome job dude!

    Oh and 5800’s got two speakers so twin stereo speakers! 😉

    • smashpop

  • I would say 5800 is better thant iphone…iphone is not really that user friendly tho….i cant wait for 5800 to be launched..i wanna get my hands on that cool gadget..ahaha..

    • smashpop

      @Ernest, i think the iPhone is VERY user friendly.. eventhough i prefer the 5800

      • ArunKarthik

        @smashpop, no doubt, iphone may be even more user friendly than tube, i would have even bought the iphone.. but its features are the reason i wont be seen anywhere near it! For me (and millions of others out there), features matter more than flashiness. Anyhow, 5800 FTW! 😀

        • smashpop

          @ArunKarthik, YESSSSSSSSSSSS

  • I’ve always been a Nokia user, but one of the one biggest holes which I’ve noticed in Nokia S60 devices is its VPN implementation.

    Even the version 1 iPhone can do basic PPTP connections. Nokia can only do the horrible and expensive to implement IPsec.

    Eseries has been out for years, why isn’t Nokia covering PPTP and Open SSL/OpenVPN? It’s just softwares isn’t it?

    This means a lot to those like me, who live in countries like UAE, China, & KSA where most of the cool sites/services like Last.FM, SIP, Skype etc, have been blocked for years.

    This lack of proper VPN support hurts us financially, Nokia enough of this!

    If you can pass on this message to Nokia, please do so!

    • smashpop

      @IncidentFlux, hope nokia reads your comment 😀

    • Geoff

      PPTP VPN exists for Nokia’s phone, but its made not by Nokia. I have tested one on N95.

  • Very nice and detailed comparison. Nokia rocks.

    Here is another comparison-

    • smashpop

      @Nokia 5800, thanks mate

  • Pingback: smashin' pOpstar()

  • “Contract”
    5800, no contract needed
    iphone, need contract or not needed only in some country

    5800, target for teenager = cheaper
    iphone, those high tech ppl/mac lover = expensive

    5800, malaysia shipping
    iphone, soon but never happen, even some web that protesting

    Basic lor.

    • smashpop

      @Kenny Chun, very true. but this comparison is focused on its features. hehe prolly should make another table eh

  • zaque

    I agree on Kenny Chun on Price wise. Nokia owns on that part…u r targeting the teenager and young adults.

    Other than that nokia has better features on phones compared to iphone…they are focus more to media device.

    So for all in one in a phone…nokia is a better choice. 😀

    • smashpop

      @zaque, hi 5! 😀

  • Haha…I will go for Nokia 5800

    First of all, price
    second, the quality is not bad
    third, I love nokia!!

    • smashpop

      @hitomi, ahaha u is nokia fan? i is like!

    • @hitomi, hehe…I love nokia for its quality..though I never use nokia’s colour phone na

  • Feature pretty much lor, except iphone more productive (business type) and 5800 is media (play based). but iphone cover flow nice lor

    • smashpop

      @Kenny Chun, that i agree

  • Alex

    lucky i haven’t decide which phone to buy, saw the review of 5800, i start to loving it, lucky didn’t buy iPhone for the crazy price tag -_-”
    btw, the only thing i scare is the s60 software and the browser

    • smashpop

      @Alex, the browser is actually quite dissapointing.

      • Alex

        really? so iPhone for the best browsing phone?
        do u owned a iPhone?

        • smashpop

          @Alex, yes iphone is still the best phone to browse Internet

  • Wow!! seem like Nokia’s better!! much better!! how about the price???

    • smashpop

      @~T@!ra~, 279euro.. so abt rm1.3-1.6

  • BoyBawang

    iPhone: flick scrolling
    5800: drag scroll bars

    iPhone: Standby Shortcuts = 100+
    5800: Standby Shortcuts = 6

    iPhone: single tap
    5800: confusing mix between single & double taps

    Interestingly, it’s still 5800 that i’m going to buy!!! 🙂

    • ArunKarthik

      @BoyBawang, about the third thing, you prolly need to double tap only when the menu item is already highlighted, this is to avoid accidental choosing if you wanna scroll the list of options. Though this is my assumption, cant be sure untill i have the device in my hands! 😛

      • BoyBawang

        @ArunKarthik, I have played with the emulator. double tap is really inconsistent and has no practical reason. accidental click is not an issue because you can simply cancel it by dragging your finger outside the target like other touchscreens. In windows mobile you simply long-tap an item to select it and display popup options.

        • ArunKarthik

          @BoyBawang, yeah i’ve tried the emu too and well, like i said, still have to use the device personally to judge it completely! 😉

    • smashpop

      @BoyBawang, dont worry about all those small things… its not as confusing as you think

  • i still find iPhone is cooler . hahaha

    • ArunKarthik

      @DavidZMetal, probably cuz features don’t really matter to u? 😉

      • smashpop

        @ArunKarthik, ahha good one

    • smashpop

      @DavidZMetal, cooler but cannot record video wor… 2mpx camera without auto focus wor… cannot send mms wor.. camera no flashwor.. browser cannot support flash wor…. cool?

      • @smashpop,

        hehe, but iphone dual touch function and its interface is really cool.

        I’m talking bout coolness ya . not iphone is better 😛

  • bobby

    what are the approx prices for both? is there alot of difference?

    • ArunKarthik

      @bobby, 5800 costs half what iphone 3g costs. and thats almost everywhere in the world.

      • smashpop

        @ArunKarthik, yup

    • smashpop

      @bobby, its 279 euro without tax

  • You guys dont see whats coming? You guys don’t see what Apple capable of. To me, I dont see any of the mobile phone companies out there that really really focus on their softwares. Comparing Nokia expertise in software development with Apple, is like comparing sand with a rock. The closest challenger to Apple’s iPhone, is RIM but recently Apple has just announced: They are now the third largest mobile phone maker by revenue, after Nokia and Samsung with a share market, slightly more than just 1%!

    Read it yourself.

    • ArunKarthik

      @maverick, so you prefer sales do the talking rather than THE ACTUAL FEATURES??? isn’t that not thinking out of the box a bit?

  • I was wondering since this is first of its kind from Nokia, will the settings be a bit screwed and does it lag or hang like the first Xpress Music 3250 did. I remember mine and my acquantainces’ hanged for a good ten minutes per message sent.

    • smashpop

      @Samantha L., eventhough its branded as xpressmusic… but this one is using a totally new symbian.. so dont worry. its just the branding… but the inside is totally different

  • So it’s not laggy even if there’s files in it?

    • smashpop

      @Samantha L., correct

  • Alright, thanks!

  • TPS

    when the phone will coming out?? wat is the price in malaysia.

    • smashpop

      @TPS, january,.. 2k or less

  • TPS

    2k is the original price or ap??

  • Jundi93

    nokia 5800 XPM is the best 4 sure!
    i’m going to buy it

  • ivy
  • viruzzz

    iphone. Yeah single click, but do you realise that to access certain option/features, nokia actually faster than iphone’s single click.. Example, iphone-menu, option,preference,organise. While nokia, menu,organise.. Faster 😀
