Apple to Begin iPhone 5 Production in September. Cheaper Version Possible Too.

Several reports have been saying that Apple may delay the production of the iPhone 5 until fall, which is around September, adding that a traditional summer iPhone release will not be happening this year.

Some even mentioned that the delay occurs because Apple has been taking its time finding suppliers for the many components for the iPhone 5. Not sure if this has anything to do with the recent disasters in Japan.

According to a note released by Avian Securities states:

Supporting out comments over the last month, conversations with yet another key component supplier indicates that production for iPhone-5 will begin in September. This is consistent with Avian findings in the supply chain in recent months and we believe the consensus view is moving towards this scenario.

They also believe that a cheaper ‘lite’ version of the iPhone is in the roadmap too.

As a reminder, Avian has uncovered several data-points in recent months pointing to the existence of a lower-spec/lower-price iPhone. A lower-spec/lower-price iPhone has also been speculated in the press and gadget blogs, though we do not believe consensus currently discounts the existence of such a model.

Now that the next iPhone might only come in 2012, do you recommend your friends to get the iPhone 4 now? or wait til next year? Leave a comment and let us know.
