If you remember, we blogged about Pool Party last month mentioning that Google built this app to sort of take a bite of Instagram’s fame on the social photography app amongst users.
Back then the app was just announced and users would have to request for invites in order to get access into the app (well you still need to) but I’ve got an invite yesterday by my buddy JayOng (thx bro!) and here’s some screenshots I took to show you how the app looks like.
We’ve got some invites to give out too! 15 of them! Just follow me on Twitter (@smashpop) cos I’ll be giving out the invitations there.
So Pool Party app works on Android and iOS. The main function here is group sharing, where users contribute photos into a group album — a pool if you will, and your friends can contribute to the pool by adding in their photos. You don’t get fancy filters like on Instagram, but this one might interest those who loves to collaborate with friends in creating a pool of photos.
I tried it on my iPhone cos it’s easier to take screenshots on it. Here’s the intro screen after you sign in. It basically tells you what the app does.
As you can see, Jay and I have a pool in common which he created. I renamed it to “JaypOp” to signify that only both of us share photos in the pool. Tap on it and it will bring you to the detailed view of the pool.
In this case, photos are listed in tiles.
Tap on the bottom right button to switch to activity view. In this screen you get to see what every member of the pool did, whether adding a photo, liking or even commenting on a photo. Tap on an individual photo will bring out the enlarge view and a comment box at the bottom for you to type your message.

So basically that’s about it. Very simple app. Do you think this is better than Instagram? Leave a comment and let us know.
