Alright so we got the chance to play with the Lumia 1020 and the camera grip at our recent trip to Nokia House in Finland so here goes!
Some specs of the Lumia 1020:
Display: 4.5” AMOLED WXGA (1280×768)
Battery: 2000 mAh battery, wireless charging supported via cover
Processor: 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon
Main camera: PureView 41-megapixel with optical image stabilization
Front facing camera: HD 1.2-megapixel wide angle
Memory: 2GB RAM, 32GB internal memory; 7GB fre
When we first held it, the 1020 felt very much like the 920 but lighter and thinner. The matte finish also gives us a feeling that it felt a bit like the 925. With the camera lens bump at the back, one will need to hold the phone at the bottom half while viewing the screen on portrait mode. Everything just felt very familiar as the outlook resembles previous Lumia devices like the 920, 820 and 720,
We won’t be showing any camera samples here but from our trial, photos were sharp and colours were vibrant. Often times, we would find ourselves zooming, reframing and cropping after we snapped the photo. TheXenon flash works better than older phones with Xenon flash. This one is capable of measuring the distance of the subject, hence using the proper flash power to illuminate it.
Nokia Pro Camera
The Pro camera app rocks! It has dials for every single customization you usually get on a manual camera. ISO settings, manual focusing, exposure, white balance and many more. Somehow the app takes a few seconds longer to load than the default camera but we are sure Nokia will improve this in the future.
The grip is solid and has the same texture as the phone itself; matte finish. The camera button is capable of doing the 2-clicks press just like how you do on any other compact camera.
The camera grip also gives the 1020 additional battery power so one could be carrying a 1020 with attached grip to prolong the usage when say… travelling.
We are not sure when the Lumia 1020 will be arriving in Malaysia but it seems like a really good phone with an awesome camera. Can’t wait to use it for our day-to-day photography needs!
