We were at the Sony new camera event last night and among all the new photography devices introduced, we were looking forward to touching the QX100 lens camera the most. It’s a camera (or you can say accessory) for you to take photos wirelessly (or attached to the phone) and snap photos using the interface only the phone display.

The event was held at Hilton, KL.

If you are still clueless what this gadget is, it is basically a camera (with battery and memory card slot) that connects to your iPhone or Android via wifi or NFC to take photos by turning the phone display into a viewfinder and a wireless controller. To be honest, this is one of the most innovative gadget since the iPhone.

Paring it with our HTC Butterfly S was super simple. Just tap the phone to the QX100 NFC logo and it connects straight away. Though pairing takes about 5-10 seconds. IT will then open the PlayMemories app on the phone to enable the viewfinder and controller. After snapping a photo, it takes about 5 seconds to transfer it to the phone, which you can then use it to share on Instagram, Facebook or anywhere you want.

This is one of the most innovative gadget since the iPhone.

The QX100 is super solid. Holding it is like holding the RX100. In fact, IT IS a RX100 Mark2.. but in a different form. So do expect the same low light capabilities with the f1.8 aperture and sharpness.

Here’s a look at the back of the device where the battery is located. If not mistaken, we can take up to 200 shots with 1 full charge.

Check out these sample shots I took under low ballroom light. Click to enlarge.

No zoom. F1.8. Very sharp and no noise at all.

Zoomed x3.6. F4.9. Even after zoomed, the optical stabiliser works really well in countering handshake, as you can see in this photo.

Do note that with all the great specs and features, the lens camera clip can only fit phones with screens maximum 5 inches. So if you have a Note 2 or Note 3, you need to hold it with one hand and your phone on the other in order to snap a photo.
The Qx100 and QX10 will be available in October. Price to be confirmed.
