Apple Pay is now available in Singapore for American Express customers
Apple has just announced today that the Apple Pay service has been extended to Singapore. This is the 6th country to get the payment service alongside Canada, China, Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
This may be good news but not to every Singaporeans as the service is currently limited to only American Express users. AMEX cardholders can now add their credit cards to the Wallet app by opening the app and tapping on the “+” button or using Settings and tapping “Add Credit or Debit Card.”
Although Apple Pay in Singapore is only limited to AMEX, Apple’s website says the support will expand to major credit and debit cards from top banks “soon.”
Visa is listed as a credit card partner and promises to support the service in Singapore in the future. These banks have the same commitment as well: DBS, UOB, and Standard Chartered.
Some of the retail outlets that accept Apple Pay in Singapore include Starbucks, FairPrice, StarHub, Uniqlo, TopShop, and Shaw Theaters, along with other stores that have NFC-equipped payment terminals. Upcoming outlets like BreadTalk, Cold Storage, FoodRepublic, Giant, and more will be adding support for Apple Pay soon.
For Apple Pay app support, Uber and Homeway Asia will be the first 2 brands to do so. Now we wonder when will Apple Pay come to Malaysia. Hmm.
