For the longest time, WhatsApp has been allowing users to chat over the messenger app on mobile devices only, unlike other competitors like Line, Telegram and Facebook Messenger.
They made news in January last year when they released a web version of their service, allowing users to sync between mobile and desktop.
Today, they filled the news headlines again by releasing a full fledged desktop app for both Mac and Windows.
Like WhatsApp Web, our desktop app is simply an extension of your phone: the app mirrors conversations and messages from your mobile device. The new desktop app is available for Windows 8+ and Mac OS 10.9+ and is synced with WhatsApp on your mobile device. Because the app runs natively on your desktop, you’ll have support for native desktop notifications, better keyboard shortcuts, and more.
